The Science Department structures its program to develop within its students enthusiasm for and understanding in the various fields of science by performing frequent hands-on activities that are relevant to their everyday experiences, and by utilizing current technology.  It is hoped that students will display not only the ability, but the desire to participate in science activities, and to think critically. As students discover the "truths" of science and consider them in the context of the truths of sacred scripture, they will realize that God has ordered and designed nature and that the Bible and the data of science will be in complete agreement where correctly interpreted.

Foreign Language

The purpose of the Foreign Language Department is to enable the students to develop insight into their own language and culture, as they look beyond their customary borders and gain an understanding and appreciation of other cultures. Students will learn a new language and the culture intertwined within that language, enabling them to communicate more effectively with people from other cultures, in a variety of settings, and expand their ability to participate in reaching out to the world for God's glory.

Bible

The Bible Department seeks to build competence in biblical studies and to promote the application to daily life. This will be accomplished by moving students through a systematic exposure to the whole of scripture. Using their understanding of scripture, students will be challenged to analyze their own belief systems, evaluate the degree of alignment between the Bible and various evangelical doctrines and world religions, and to consider biblical principles and concepts when determining proper responses to ethical issues and people who do not share their view of God and the world.

Physical Education

The Physical Education program is designed to enhance the physical well being of all students. Students are assisted in their development of responsibility and appropriate social behavior (consistent with biblical values) including integrity, concern for others, sportsmanship, and a willingness to submit to authority. Physical activities provide the opportunity to improve basic competency in motor skills and movement patterns, to enhance their ability to competently participate in recreational games, and to develop the skills to create, monitor, and implement a personal fitness plan. Students will gain an understanding of essential health concepts.

Life Skills
Life Skills

The Life Skills department seeks to assist students in the discovery and development of their God-given aptitude in practical skills likely to be used regardless of future occupation or ministry. These are skills that contribute to independent living, the ability to maintain a home, and the ability to design and create items of practical use. The emphasis is on design, plan development, budgeting, proper use of tools, in addition to the actual quality of the product produced.

Term Length Offerings
Term Length offerings

Each year a variety of elective, typically exploratory, courses are offered. These courses are one-term (twelve weeks) in duration. The goal is to provide the opportunity for students to "dabble" outside of their usual fields of interest and academic requirements. Courses must have an approved curriculum and will vary from year to year depending on staffing availability and staffing/student interests.




 

Special Enrichment Opportunities
Special Enrichment Opportunities

The African context provides many unique opportunities for educational experiences beyond the classroom. These include formal field trips, as well as the informal activities. Extended experiences off-campus include interim and the Model United Nations. Interscholastic interactions such as chess tournaments and joint art shows or music productions round out extracurricular options.
