Kiambogo Steps

As the Centennial Celebration drew near, a number of alumni looked at Kiambogo and wondered, "What would it take to get the steps put back on the front?"  When the porch was redone, the old wooden steps had been taken down because they were rotting and becoming a hazard.  The building director at the time was careful not to completely close off the railing, because the idea was to put the steps back on.  Years later, there were still no steps.  John Barnett took the idea to the Steering Committee and asked if it could be done.  He was told that it would be no problem as long as the funds came from outside the school budget, namely the alumni.  John set up an account and began soliciting funds.  Mary Honer also became involved and between them they publicized the need.  Unfortunately the funds did not arrive in time for the steps to be built for Centennial, but they are now complete.  On the positive side, they are now in stone that matches the rest of the building, if they had been put in when originally intended they would have been wood and would have eventually needed to be replaced again.

Video Room

The class of 2005 left the school a great gift.  Their class gift was money to spruce up the video room.  This was a very needed gift since the room had not been painted or had new carpet put in since it was built.  Vicki Harrison, one of our dorm moms with decorating experience, headed up the project.  With the class funds as a start, maintenance added funds and the room has been repainted, re-carpeted, had new curtains hung, and perhaps best of all, installed a new entertainment system with stereo surround sound!  Instead of one or two large screen TVs, the room now boasts a built in projector with DVD player and VCR, allowing for much greater ease in showing movies.  (On an amusing side note, the key to the video room is still on the old key ring, a large P for projection room.  The name is now correct again.)
